5 January 2010 - Blackinton Badge Saves A Life
You may have already seen the news reports on CNN and PoliceOne.com, but in case you have not we thought this Christmas Miracle was certainly worth sharing with you!
During an early morning traffic stop on December 24th Oakland, TN, officer Joshua Smith was shot in the chest by the driver of a vehicle he had just pulled over. Smith was wearing body armor, as well as the department's new oval Blackinton® B2172 Badge. Officer Smith was knocked to the ground, but miraculously survived the incident. The bullet was deflected by the Blackinton® Shield. The adjacent image of the badge is from a CNN video clip in which Officer Smith was interviewed. To watch this video visit the CNN website by clicking HERE. To read about the incident in more detail visit the PoliceOne.com website by clicking HERE. We were happy to hear that officer Smith escaped unharmed from this terrible incident, and were pleased to know that his Blackinton® Shield played a part in his survival. We are working with the Oakland Police Department to retrieve this badge, so we can encapsulate it in Lucite as a memento for Officer Smith. We wish you all a very Happy and Safe 2010! |
